Another Scoop! New NAO procurement supremo…

by Peter Smith on January 24, 2010

As always, we are first with the procurement news that matters….

We hear through the procurement grapevine (the finest Cabernet Sauvignon of course) that Roy Ayliffe is about to take up the post of Head of Commerce* at the National Audit Office.

As well as taking responsibility for the NAO’s third party spend, I understand he will have some input to the NAO’s  “value for money” studies where procurement is relevant.  So for example, if the NAO decided to review procurement in the NHS, Roy might provide advice on what good practice should look like.

As I suspect many of you will know, Roy worked for 10 years at CIPS, latterly as Director of Professional Practice, until he left during the ‘events’ of last year.  He was also the face and voice of CIPS, commenting in the media on the Purchasing Managers’ Indices and other matters on a regular basis.  His deep knowledge of procurement issues should stand him in good stead at NAO; he will need to keep on his toes though because there are a large number of ferociously intelligent people at NAO!

All the very best to Roy.

* that was the title used I believe when it was advertised anyway.  Slightly odd title at that…
